Susan Combs completes updates to School Nutrition Policy before departure

There has been some concern about Susan Combs' move from the Texas Department of Agriculture and fear of backsliding on her progressive School Nutrition Policy for Texas Public Schools.

The final updates to the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy were sent to superintendents, foodservice directors and principals at all Texas public schools in October. The mailing included an implementation schedule for policy updates planned through 2010 to give schools time to prepare. The final policy was completed following input from a September stakeholders' meeting in Austin, attended by representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, health and education non-profit associations, PTAs, associated state agencies and universities and child nutrition professionals.
